About the event

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Philadelphia-based Scottish folk rocker and award-winning songwriter Paul Saint John has been writing and recording music since the early nineties, where he was the founder of the 90s UK band The Cottonfield.

After quitting the music scene and moving to the U.S. in 2000, he again picked up his guitar in 2013. Based now in Philadelphia, PA, he released the critically acclaimed album "Eleventeen," followed by two EPs and a handful of Singles. Playing solo with just guitar and harmonica at Philadelphia Folk Festival, New Jersey Folk Festival, numerous other showcases, and opening for the likes of Al Stewart, Saint John was gaining prominence on the East Coast. In 2016 due to personal and family illnesses, that all stopped.

2020 brought Paul Saint John back from a hiatus for a second time; this time though was with a band. Paul Saint John and The Nighthawks have been featured locally on WXPN, nationally on NPR, and internationally on the BBC. Forming in 2020, the band has recorded two EPs: "Whistles and Bells," released in May 2020, and "Green Lights," released in December 2020.

September 2021 brought their debut album, "Sometimes Never Late." The band recorded a number of new songs in March 2022, with the first Single, "Golden," released in May 22. The band played the 60th Philadelphia Folk Festival in the summer of 2022. The Fall of 2022 brought the last Single of the year: "Am I Still High." September 2023 brought the single, "Queenie." The band's sophomore album, "Under Silver Ceiling," is set for a January 2024 release, and Paul Saint John and the Nighthawks will being performing extensively in 2024 in support of the new record.
