About the event

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

My Familiar is a band based in Philadelphia, equal parts drama and sincerity and a style that weaves together a theatrical blend of folk, rock, and soul. My Familiar was formed in 2018 by songwriter Chris Dunlap (vocals/guitar) with Lydia Joy (vocals), Luke Benedict (drums), Alyssa Almeida (cello), and Brian Clarke (bass). The band released their first album, ‘Demons’ in March of 2020, fatefully coinciding with the onset of Covid-19. Demons, a concept album, is made up of songs each themed around one of the seven deadly sins with an eighth exploring the self. Album art illustrated by artist Danny Gonzalez beautifully depicts the tracks as represented by seven analogous demons gathered beneath an ascending human figure. Over the following three years, My Familiar went largely inactive and saw the departure of Almeida and Clarke. More recently however, the band has been joined by Julia Povlow and Billy Myers on violin and bass respectively, and have begun working on new material which have been showcased at live performances. In the summer of 2023, My Familiar released a performance video for the song “Oasis”. Another project featuring two new songs in currently in the works.

Opening the night is Tyler Sensenig!

Consumed with a love for music and seeking an outlet for expression, Tyler Sensenig approaches music with a purpose. His songs draw inspiration from life experiences and nature. He carefully crafts each and every lyric in order to embrace themes of contemplation and introspection. With a dynamic indie-folk sound, Tyler creates heartfelt melodies that invite the listener to reflect on their own life and experiences.   Drawing inspiration from the likes of Gregory Alan Isokov, Coldplay, Big Thief, and Sufjan Stevens, Tyler continues to write and create content inspired by these music icons and more. He is currently based in Philadelphia and can be found playing at various venues around the city.
